Quick SEO Win #1: Submit Your Sitemap and Get Found on Google Faster

This is part of my Quick SEO Wins series — created to help you take control of your SEO, one practical step at a time.

If you’re a nutritionist, health coach or wellness practitioner, SEO can feel overwhelming. But it doesn’t need to be.

Each blog in this series breaks down one small but powerful step you can take today to improve your visibility and start showing up on Google, without needing to overhaul everything at once.

If you’re a nutritionist or wellness practitioner trying to get more clients through your website, getting found on Google is key.

But here’s something most people don’t realise: Google doesn’t always know your website or latest blog even exists, unless you tell it.

In this quick win, I’ll walk you through how to submit your sitemap using Google Search Console, so Google can find your content sooner and help your site rank higher in search results.

Whether you’ve DIYed your Squarespace site or you’re getting support to improve your SEO, this step is foundational.

What’s a Sitemap? And Why Does It Matter?

Think of your sitemap as a contents page for your website. It tells Google exactly which pages exist and how to find them.

Squarespace creates this for you automatically; you don’t need to build anything. But you do need to submit it to Google manually the first time, and again whenever you publish a new blog or key page.

Doing this helps:

  • Speed up how quickly your content is indexed

  • Make sure Google focuses on your most important content

  • Support your site to rank higher and get found by potential clients

Step-by-Step: How to Submit Your Sitemap in Google Search Console

Let’s walk through it together.

STEP 1: Set up Google Search Console

If you haven’t already, you’ll need to set up a free Google Search Console account.

Google isn’t magic – it’s a machine. But it rewards consistency and clarity, and that’s precisely what blogging provides.

Follow the prompts to verify your domain (you may need to log into your domain provider or Squarespace).

STEP 2: Submit Your Sitemap URL

If you're using Squarespace, your sitemap is automatically located at:
yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

(Just replace ‘yourdomain.com’ with your actual website address if it doesn’t automatically populate like below.)

  1. From your dashboard, click on ‘Sitemaps’ in the left-hand menu.

  2. In the box that says ‘Add a new sitemap’, type: sitemap.xml

  3. Click Submit.

That’s it! Google now knows exactly what pages to crawl and prioritise.

STEP 3: Request Indexing for New Pages or Blog Posts

Every time you publish a new blog post or add a key page (like a new service or freebie), you can ask Google to index it straight away.

Here’s how:

  1. In Google Search Console, click on ‘URL Inspection’ (top bar).

  2. Paste in the exact URL of your new blog post or page.

  3. Click ‘Request Indexing’

This tells Google, Hey, I’ve got something new, come and look!

Why This Matters for Wellness Businesses

Submitting your sitemap and indexing new content helps you:

✔️ Show up in search results sooner
✔️ Get found by people actively searching for your help
✔️ Build SEO momentum that supports long-term growth

If your goal is to get more clients for your nutrition business, this step gives you visibility and control, without needing to know any techy jargon.

Submitting your sitemap is a brilliant start, but it’s normal to wonder when you’ll see the impact. SEO doesn’t deliver results overnight, but with a few foundational steps (like this one), you're setting your site up for long-term growth.

Quick Recap: Your SEO Action Step Today

Here’s what to do right now:

✅ Go to Google Search Console and connect your website
✅ Submit your sitemap: sitemap.xml
✅ Every time you publish a new page or blog post, use the URL Inspection tool to request indexing

These small actions help Google find your content, so the people who are searching for your services can too.

Now that your sitemap’s submitted, the next step is to help Google understand how your content connects. Here’s how internal links support SEO and client enquiries.

FAQs About SEO for Health and Wellness

What is SEO in healthcare? SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) in healthcare means making your website more visible on Google so potential clients can find you when they search for services like nutrition support, hormone balance, or gut health. It involves using the right keywords, organising your site well, and creating valuable content that answers real questions.

How do you market health and wellness? Marketing your health and wellness business starts with a clear message, a well-structured website, and content that speaks to your ideal client. SEO helps people find you through Google search, while other tools like email marketing, blogging, and testimonials build trust and encourage enquiries.

How to do an SEO health check? Start by reviewing your website’s key areas:

  • Are your page titles and descriptions clear and keyword-rich?

  • Have you submitted your sitemap to Google?

  • Are your images named properly with alt text?

  • Do all your important pages link to each other?

If that sounds overwhelming, I offer an SEO Health Check service to give you a clear picture of your website’s SEO status and 4 actions you can take immediately.

What are the 4 types of SEO? The four main types of SEO are:

  1. On-page SEO – Optimising content, images, and keywords on your website

  2. Technical SEO – Behind-the-scenes elements like speed, security, and structure

  3. Off-page SEO – Building trust through backlinks and external mentions

  4. Local SEO – Helping people near you find your business (especially important for clinics or therapists)
